Soul Keeper

This is a pen & ink piece I did after seeing some of Kay Nielsen’s illustrations from the Book of the dead, printed in Black & White Images – First Annual Collection.  The golden era of pen & ink illustration 1890-1922.   This piece is based on the Preface plate.  Jim Vadeboncoeur really should be applauded for his efforts in preserving and making available this kind of illustration work – in print, which is key.  I especially love the Black and White annuals – gorgeous!  Big surprise, eh?  Anyway, this was my first take.  I later did a digital version that I liked quite a bit as well.  C r e e p y.  Now that I see the pen & ink version again, I think I like it better. Big surprise eh?  hehe
